At the first floor of the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, until October 30 2011 the exhibition Vasari, the Uffizi and the Duke. On the occasion of the fith centenary of Vasari’s birth (1511-1574) a nice exhibit which puts in evidence the building of the Uffizi and the strict cooperation between Cosimo I of the Medici family and his architect. The structure of the Uffizi cannot be compared with other buildings of the XVI century and has become a model in Renaissance. The upper floor of the building, where nowadys we have the famous painting collection, is crowned by a loggia which became soon a space where the Medici started preserving ancient statues. The exhibition shows the different phases of the construction as well as the two editions of the Lives of Artists (1550 and 1568) written by Vasari and his sonnets, letters and drawings.
