Do not miss the exhibition Sweet triumphs and wonderful foldings. Sugar sculptures and napkins for the Florentine wedding of Maria de’ Medici at the Palatina Galleria in the Pitti Palace of Florence. Until June 7 2015.
The incredible sculptures in sugar have been recreated following the detailed descriptions of Michelangelo Buonarroti The Younger. We know that architects, sculptures, scenographers and engineers as Buontalenti, Ligozzi, Giambologna and Tacca were commissioned. Among the masterpieces, the famous portrait of Henry the IV, Maria’s husband, on his horse which was 1 meter high. Sarah and Giacomo Del Giudice, in their Foundry in Srada in Chianti cast these wonderful pieces, according to an ancient technique. In the beautiful Sala di Bona we can admire also the magnificent foldings made by Joan Sallas with linen napkins, to astonish guesses.
