Take the great oppurtunity of visiting the Monastery of Bosco ai Frati (San Piero a Sieve) out of Florence, where until November 6th 2020 it will be possible to apreciate the Triptych of Nicolas Froment with stories of saint Lazarus, Marta and Maria. When the monastery was soppressed, during the Napoleonic dominium, the painting was moved away and since 1841 it was preserved in the Uffizi Gallery. Now, according to the project “Lands of Uffizi” and after almost two hundred years it is back to Bosco ai Frati. The painting shows the date 1461 and the signature of the painter Nicolas Froment on the cover panells. It was commissioned by the bishop Coppini, during one of his diplomatic missions for the papacy, but when he fell out of favor, his goods were confiscated and the painting became property of the Medici family. Cosimo de’ Medici gave the painting to the friars and bought the whole area of the monastery, which became under the patronage of the Medici family.
