Every September, on 7th and 8th , in Florence we celebrate the Rificolona feast. It is a parade of children and grown ups, walking through the streets of the city centre of Florence holding colourful paper lamps of many different shapes.
The origin of this feast is probably due to the countrymen coming to Florence from the nearby valleys to celebrate the nativity of the Virgin Mary (8th Sept) and bringing lamps in order to light their paths.
On 7th September at 9:00 pm the meeting point for the Rificolona will be in SS.Annunziata square in Florence. The next day, 8th Sept, a parade of rificolone will be along the river Arno at the Rowing Club of Florence.
Many districts of the city will provide laboratories for children how to make a rificolona.
