The Medici Chapels celebrates the fifth centenary of Leo X’s election with an exhibition : In the Medici splendor. Pope Leo X and Florence. Giovanni de’ Medici, second son of Lorenzo the Magnificent was elected pope as Leo X in 1513. The exhibit shows different moments of his life: his childhood surrounded by scholars and humanists; his journey back to Florence in 1515, his project of beautifying Rome, calling many Florentine artists. Besides they want to point out the achievement of the San Lorenzo complex in Florence, wanted by the two popes of the Medici family Leo and Clemens (his cousin) who commissioned Michelangelo the Library, the fachade of the Church of San Lorenzo and the New Sacresty with the monumental graves for their parents and relatives.
