Do not miss next Sunday, Easter Day, the traditional Explosion of the Charriot, during the mass at 11:00 in Duomo Square in Florence.
The big charriot will start from via il Prato, where it is housed, and it will cross the city centre of Florence with an evocative historical parade.
This old tradition dates back to the XII century when a member of the powerful Pazzi family, was back from the I Crusade with some flintstones of the Holy Sepulcrum in Gerusalem. The stones were used for the holy fire during Easter time.
The Charriot stops between the Baptistry and the main entrance of the Cathedral and it is connected to the main altar with a wire on which a wooden dove runs, hiting the firecrackers on the chariot. From that moment explosions, fireworks, smoke will fill up the square. A great fun! Reserve a private walking tour with your licensed guide of Florence.
