On February 14 2013 2013 in Florence the official re-opening of the Rucellai Temple in the Rucellai Chapel. On February 16 and 17 an extraordinary opening with free entrance for visiting the Sacello of the Holy Sepulcrum from the Museo Marino Marini and since February 18 the wonderful Sacello will be definitively visible to public with a 4 euro ticket at the opening time of the nearby Museo Marino Marino. The splendid Sacello del Santo Sepolcro in the Rucellai Chapel was designed by the Renaissance architect Leon Battista Alberti and finished around 1467 for Giovanni of Paolo Rucellai as a copy of the Holy Sepulcrum of Jerusalem. The Rucellai Chapel once belonged to the church of San Pancrazio, which years ago, no more used as a church, was restored and transformed into the Museo Marino Marini, whose Foundation supported the restoration and the cleaning of the Sacello. The small and precious chapel is nowadays property of the Florentine Curia and it will be used for mass.
The monument is famous for the splendid white and green marble in-lay panels; some of them show, among the geometrical patterns, the coats of arm of Giovanni Rucellai (a billowing ship’s sail), of Lorenzo the Magnificent (three rings), of his father Piero de’ Medici (the diamond pointed ring with two feathers) and of Cosimo the Elder ( the hat mazzocchio with three feathers).
