The Medici Venus, one of the most important pieces of the Medici collection of antiques is on restoration. The very famous statue, preserved in the Tribune of the Uffizi gallery in Florence is object of a detailed restoration supported by the Foundation Friends of Florence. The researches have pointed out traces of gold in leave on hair and red on lips. It is not something strange considering the descriptions of the XVIII century travellers of the Grand Tour who referred of gold on hair. Unfortunately a too strong restoration, made when the statue was back from Paris where Napoleon brought it, changed her look, as the director of the department Fabrizio Paolucci explains. The statue also used to have holes on earlobes for earrings, to make her more real.
