The Uffizi Gallery of Florence has a new section dedicated to the 1500 painting, showing 129 masterpieces in 14 new rooms. The museum espands his surface with over 2000 square metres, displaying even paintings never shown. But also new acquisitions, such as the magnificent Elias in the desert by Daniele da Volterra, and new donations, such as the San Giovanni Battista by Rosso Fiorentino.
We have now new rooms for the masterpieces by Andrea del Sarto, Pontormo, Parmigianino e Sebastiano del Piombo, which have received new life from a better lightning and a more beautiful display.
Besides, a large room is dedicated to an astonishing selection of self-portraits, which used to be in the Vasarian Corridor: Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Marc Chagall, Angelica Kauffmann, Renato Guttuso, together with the large statue by Foggini representing the Cardinal Leopoldo de' Medici who started his painters' self-portraits collection, one of the most important in the world.
