The Gallerie degli Uffizi of Florence have recently purchased a new painting by Francesco Hayez: The portrait of the Colonel Arese Lucini in prison. The character's elegant dress contrasts with the squalid room and the chains at his anckles. The Count Francesco Teodoro Arese Lucini (Milan 1778 -1836) was a Napoleonic soldier who later on partecipated to the Risorgimental insurrection. The painting will be visible for a while at the top of the Lorenese Staircase at the Second floor of the Uffizi Gallery and then it wil be definitely displayed in the Modern Art Gallery at the second floor of the Pitti Palace.
