After a two year restoration at the Opificio delle Pietre Dure, The Portrait of Pope Leo X between the Cardinals Giulio de’ Medici e Luigi de’ Rossi by Raphael, is back home. It will be the main character of an interesting exhibition “Raphael and the coming back of the Medici Pope – restorations and discoveries “ from October 27th 2020 until January 31st 2021 at the Sala delle Nicchie of the Pitti Palace of Florence.
The long restoration has pointed out the original shades of colors and the impressive details of clothes, fabrics and objects, retriving the spatiality hidden because of the dirty. Besides the analysis reveals that the whole painting was painted by Raphael, as once it was thought that the two figures of the Cardinals were added in a second moment.
When the exhibit is over, the painting will be located in the Saturno Room of the Galleria Palatina of the Pitti Palace, among the other masterpieces by Raphael.
