The Argenti Museum of Florence hosts a great exhibition: Holy splendors: the treasure of the Relic Chapel in the Pitti Palace. From June 10th 2014 until November 2nd 2014.
The exhibit wants to recreate, even through documents, the incredible collection of precious items preserved in the granduke Chapel inside the Pitti Palace. The lithe Chapel, consecrated in 1616 became a symbol of the Medici devotion and of course even a symbol of the prestige of the family.
The first section is dedicated to Maria Maddalena od Austria, Cosimo II’s wife. The incredible quality of the magnificent items made of ivory, coral, semi-precious stones and ebany, presents the Chapel as a Wunderkammer (a wonder room).
The other sections are mainly dedicated to Vittoria della Rovere and her son, Cosimo III, very fond of relics. They commissioned the best goldsmiths of the time precious boxes and cases to preserved them. Among the most famous Massimiliano Soldani Benzi, Torricelli and Foggini.
