The Guidi House in Florence, as we see it today, has the same number of rooms and the same layout of the flat rented in 1847 by the couple Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barret Browning, the famous English poets who lived in this house for several years and died in 1861.
The  majority of paintings and of the furniture pieces was purchased by Florentine second-hand dealers, as the couple laid a strong emphasis on simplicity and functionality. In restoring their property, the Landmark Trust and Eton College have attempted to preserve the original atmosphere and avoid transforming it into a museum.
The house currently exhibits paintings and furniture pieces  belonging to the 19th century style:  doors and fireplaces are original. On the contrary ceilings  have been restored with the original colours.
Visitors to Florence may find Casa Guidi either by crossing the Ponte Santa Trinita , walking straight down Via Maggio on the right hand side until they reach the end, just before Piazza San Felice, or by crossing the Ponte Vecchio to the Palazzo Pitti, then turning into Piazza San Felice and Via Maggio.
Open to visit from 3:00-6:00 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays, April to November .
