The Academy Gallery of Florence from May 14 to Dicember 8 2013 will host the exhibition Dal giglio al David (From the lily to David. Civic art in Florence between Meddle Age and Renaissance). It consists of art pieces made for decorating public buildings, such as civic palaces, seats of the office, the seats of the Guilds of Art and also the city walls. All these selected items very often show a complex and rich of allegories iconographical program. Holy and profane are often mixed up: imagines of saints together with mythological and biblical characters: San Christopher, the Wheel of Fortune, Hercules and David (the one by Michelangelo, preserved at the Accademia).
