This is the matter of the Loggia del Porcellino (literally little pig). The name of the Loggia is due to the bronze statue of a wild boar, which is an attractive centre for tourists, because touching his nose you get good luck and putting a coin on his tongue and letting it in the grill beneath, you surely will be back to Florence again. The Loggia was built in the XVI century by Cosimo I de' Medici as a covered gold and silk market place. During the centuries the destination changed, until the XIX century when it became the famous Straw market, with a large selection of bags, purses and hats. Usually during the day the Loggia is full of the open stalls of the Porcellino market which show an incredible amount of leather goods, t-shirts, scarves and pashminas. Come to Florence!
