Today I want to tell you a story about the ancient Florence. Please follow me. Two steps away from the Signoria square and the Ponte Vecchio, there is the Loggia of the New Market, or more commonly called the Loggia of the Porcellino. During the day the loggia and the nearby area are crowded of people: vendors, tourist and Florentines. Therefore it is only in the evening, when the market stalls are removed from the Loggia, that it is possible to see the marble slab in the middle of the floor. It is a round shape white and green marble wheel and it is named "acculattata". The traslation is impossible, the italian name is very picturesque and includes the italian word culo (bottom) to suggest the punishment inflicted to insolved debtors. They were smashed with naked bottom on the marble slab for three times. This is what they did to whom did not respect rules.Come and follow your official licensed guide of Florence, she will show you other secrets of her city.
